Citing favoritism for the American players for signing a modified version of the player contract, players at the World Championships in Berlin went on strike, halting play for 95 minutes. FIVB President Dr. Rubén Acosta Hernandez met with the players and reached an agreement that favors the continued success of the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour and SWATCH-FIVB World Championships, powered by Smart, to further the growth of the sport. Three "major" items were agreed with the players, including the creation of Beach Volleyball Player's Commission for each gender. The commissions will be made up of seven players each and will meet at least once a year in Lausanne, Switzerland in a date to be determined.

Beach volleyball gears up for Continental Cup Finals
The marathon portion of this Olympic race is finished. Thirty-three months’ worth of tournaments have been played, with 15 teams of each gender claiming spots via the Olympic rankings. Those berths were earned with the cumulative total of their best 12 finishes over the course of the Olympic qualifying period.

We’re back. All the waiting and wishing and hoping and thinking and praying is almost over. Fans will soon watch and sparsely “pack” the stands at a safe distance to root on their favorite beach volleyball players. We’re so close to life being normal again, but of course, it’s not going at lightning speed.

Draw for Olympic Beach Volleyball tournament to be held in Moscow
Set to take place from July 24 to August 7, the Beach Volleyball tournament at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be held at Shiokaze Park and feature a total of 24 teams per gender. A drawing of lots ceremony will be held at 16:00 MSK (15:00 CET) on Monday July 5 at Radisson Collection Hotel in Moscow, Russia to determine the composition of the pools for the Olympic competition.

Ukraine and Russia win trophies at second Sofia event
17-year-old Ukrainians Anhelina Khmil and Tetiana Lazarenko won gold at their third ever participation in an FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event, topping the women’s podium at the second Sofia 1-star stop. The men’s trophy in the Bulgarian capital went to Russia again, this time earned by Petr Bakhnar and Valeriy Samoday to mark the pair’s first World Tour medal.

Sofia semifinal fixtures set
One of Sunday’s women’s semifinals at the second Sofia 1-star stop on FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2021 will feature teams from USA and Ukraine. In the other, pairs from Austria and Venezuela will battle it for a spot in the final. On the men’s side, the semifinals are Italy v Portugal and Italy v Russia.

Italian domination in Sofia
All four Italian teams won their opening matches in the men's main draw at the second Sofia 1-star stop on FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour 2021 on Friday. On the women's side, duos from Austria, Slovenia, USA and Venezuela topped their pools to advance directly into the quarterfinals.
